Then after one year you get no more updates. At least you get free updates for one year when you first buy their plugins. In order to keep your plugins up to date you have to pay up to 240 bucks a year for minor changes and improvements depending on how many plugins you own - thats completely overpriced in my opinion. specially their hardware emulations - but thats my opinion. One may like other plugins more, but Waves plugins certainly dont sound like sh.

Someone who says that Waves Plugins sound like sh., maybe didnt try and compare them enough, or has never used real hardware.

In my opinion the Waves Plugins are top notch and they deliver a classic sound we all know from the past decades. Nowadays also other companies have cought up and make very good plugins - thats why we are lucky to get their plugins for a reasonable price nowadys. Right, for more than 20 years their plugins were the best and most innovative around and sounded closest to the hardware in my opinion.
